Indulgent Homemade Chocolate Cake

A luscious homemade chocolate cake that surpasses any bakery treat, perfect for family gatherings and celebrations.

  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the baking pans by greasing and flouring two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract, mixing on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  5. Incorporate the boiling water into the batter, ensuring it remains thin.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes with your favorite frosting.
  10. Assemble by layering the cakes with frosting in between and on top.
  11. Decorate as desired with sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries.

Notes

For a vegan option, use flax eggs and plant-based milk. Can be frozen for up to 3 months if wrapped properly.
