Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the active dry yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Combine wet and dry: Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until combined.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Let it rise: Shape your dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  6. Shape the loaf: Punch down the risen dough to remove air bubbles, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
  7. Second rise: Place your loaf in a greased pan and cover it again for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake the bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake your loaf for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Cool and enjoy: Let the bread rest for about 5 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with adding herbs, cheese, or nuts to personalize your loaf.
