Southern Style Goulash

A comforting one-pot Southern Style Goulash that combines hearty flavors and memories into a delicious meal perfect for family gatherings.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (with juices)
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Toss in the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni.
  6. Add the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes with their juices.
  7. Pour in the beef broth and add the Worcestershire sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  8. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and cover the pot.
  9. Simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  10. Sprinkle cheese on top in the last 5 minutes of cooking if using.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
